1997 Mercury Tracer
The redesigned Tracer is Mercury's smallest model, a subcompact that has got
a new engine, styling and interior. Tracer is featuring standard dual airbags
and optional anti lock brakes that are designed to help ensure the safety of the
people on board. Its restyled dashboard is now offering an integrated control
panel made to accommodate climate and audio controls. It is being powered by a
2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that kicks at 110 horsepower. The powertrain is
being coupled by either five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission.

All Mercury Tracer 1997 models are equipped with the same engine. This engine
is quieter compared to the previous ones, although road noise and irregularities
remains a problem. The transmissions have also made improvements with the new
engine. They have become more alive, shifting smoother and faster. Impressively,
an Ls sedan Tracer could reach an average of 31.2 mpg on highway drive with a
manual shift. The Tracer gets through bumps better with its well-tuned suspension.
Handling is reliably good although it will lean in corners, overall it cruises
with stability.
